nurture

'nurture' ~ beeswax, watercolors, high flow acrylics, casein paint, and oil pastels on heavy watercolor paper, 4" x 6"

i first painted 'nurture' with watercolors on heavy watercolor paper, then i covered the painting with beeswax which i scratched into with an awl.   after that i filled in the scratched areas with black paint, and  finally i used oil pastels and paint to add some color to the surface.

it's been sprayed with a protective fixative.

esmerelda & madge

'esmerelda on her third day out' ~ watercolors, oil pastel, old paper, and pencil on watercolor paper, 2 1/2" x 3 3/4"

this is esmerelda's third day out...  prior to that she was curled up inside a fern leaf.  i think she's still uncurling...

both esmerelda and madge are painted on  small pieces of watercolor paper with four deckle edges.  i've had a stack of this paper for years - i don't remember what brand it is, but it's approximately 90# paper and i adore it.  those deckle edges...   their faces are painted/drawn on torn out pieces of an old book page that i glued to the watercolor paper.

she's been sprayed with a protective fixative...

$25 + $2.50 postage within the U.S.; $7.50 postage everywhere else

'madge' ~ watercolors, gouache, oil pastel, old paper, and pencil on watercolor paper, 2 1/2" x 3 3/4"

madge seems to be remembering something, but i'm not sure what.   maybe the good times she had before she had to dress up like this for work!

the white oil pastel highlights on her face are not so pronounced in person - everything blends together...  if you click you can see that her blouse has sparkly gold gouache along the neck and sleeves.

love

a love messenger...

a close-up so you can see the  little penciled figure...    i think it's the messenger's assistant...

so you can see the edges of the paper...

it's been sprayed with a protective fixative.

$30 + $2.50 postage within the U.S.; $5 postage everywhere else

for international orders:   i'll ship this with heavy flexible paper instead of rigid cardboard in order to keep shipping costs reasonable.

the queen and her court

'the queen and her court' ~ watercolors, graphite, soft pastels, and colored pencil on 123# creme arches cotton paper, 9" x 12"

of course i'm  not sure which one is the queen.  ; )

this is painted on soft arches cotton drawing paper.   it's one of my absolute favorite papers.  watercolors just sing on it...

the color of the paper is closest to the color in this pic...

this one is a little dark.  it was hard to photograph!

so you can see the edges of the paper...

it's been sprayed with a protective fixative.

happy

'happy' ~ watercolors, colored pencil, graphite, gold gouache and tracing paper on arches creme cotton paper, 9" x 12"

'happy' because the words 'happy happy happy' are printed in tiny letters on the far left.  i've shown lots of close-ups because there's a lot going on...

a face on tracing paper, which is over another face...

you can see the only other words - "happiness is the way" - near the top of this pic.

so you can see the edges of the paper...

it's been sprayed with a protective fixative.

short story & genevieve's very fine morning

'short story' ~ acrylic paint, neocolor II crayons and soft pastels on canvas panel, 4" x 6"

i may end up naming all of my paintings that aren't faces (if there are more ; ) 'short story'.  somehow it seems perfect;  a short, sweet story in paint.  and i do love this story...

everything on this painting has been carefully sealed so it's permanent.

$35 + $2.50 postage within the U.S.; $7.00 postage everywhere else

'genevieve's very fine morning' ~ acrylic paint, soft pastels and neocolor II crayons on canvas panel, 4" x 6"

genevieve (in the midst of her very fine morning) was hard to photograph.  somehow the camera was confounded by her...   this is pretty close to her true look - as close as i could get.  because i think she really is nicer than this pic,  i've lowered her price to tempt you.   i think you won't be disappointed...

as with 'short story', everything on this painting has been carefully sealed so it's permanent.

talks to trees, sees the sky

'talks to trees' ~ acrylic paint on canvas panel, 4" x 6"

some paintings follow their own path from start to finish, and this is one of them...

$40 + 2.50 postage within the U.S. - $7.00 postage everywhere else

SOLD

'sees the sky' ~ acrylic paint, graphite, oil pastel and gloss varnish on canvas panel, 4" x 6"

'sees the sky' also took its own path from start to finish...  and i also feel wordless when it comes to describing her!  but i think she speaks for herself...

if you click it looks like some of the paint is loose, but it's not.  everything is well anchored down with gloss varnish.

the price of these paintings is higher than usual because i wanted them to (somewhat) reflect the time and energy invested in them.  one reason i don't sell more paintings is that knowing how to price them is not within my realm of comprehension.  it's like pricing sunshine to me...
