esmerelda & madge

'esmerelda on her third day out' ~ watercolors, oil pastel, old paper, and pencil on watercolor paper, 2 1/2" x 3 3/4"

this is esmerelda's third day out...  prior to that she was curled up inside a fern leaf.  i think she's still uncurling...

both esmerelda and madge are painted on  small pieces of watercolor paper with four deckle edges.  i've had a stack of this paper for years - i don't remember what brand it is, but it's approximately 90# paper and i adore it.  those deckle edges...   their faces are painted/drawn on torn out pieces of an old book page that i glued to the watercolor paper.

she's been sprayed with a protective fixative...

$25 + $2.50 postage within the U.S.; $7.50 postage everywhere else

'madge' ~ watercolors, gouache, oil pastel, old paper, and pencil on watercolor paper, 2 1/2" x 3 3/4"

madge seems to be remembering something, but i'm not sure what.   maybe the good times she had before she had to dress up like this for work!

the white oil pastel highlights on her face are not so pronounced in person - everything blends together...  if you click you can see that her blouse has sparkly gold gouache along the neck and sleeves.

she's been sprayed with a protective fixative...

  1. I love Madge, she is like a an old fashioned waxed doll that I saw in the British Museum. Beautiful.
